We’re seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor/managing Surveyor to lead a dynamic team and drive excellence in commercial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage Work in Progress (WIP) efficiently within agreed timelines.
Collaborate with Operations Managers and the commercial team to produce and validate monthly invoicing projections.
Lead the commercial team to achieve invoicing targets and productivity goals.
Minimize application queries and ensure swift resolution.
Implement effective Low Margin / Loss Making strategies.
Foster compliance with the Delegated Authority Matrix across the organization.
Conduct regular performance reviews with the commercial team.
Prepare and submit crucial commercial reports, including monthly reporting to Senior Management and the Board.
Collaborate with Contract Managers and Operations Managers to create accurate forecasts.
Provide precise information on contract performance, margins, WIP, and target reporting.
Address exception reporting and proactively resolve issues, offering training as needed.
Promote and enforce adherence to business rules and controls within the commercial team.
Champion continuous improvement within the commercial department.
Managing the Process:
Set and review targets for the commercial team to convert WIP efficiently.
Collaborate with Operational teams and clients to resolve queries.
Escalate concerns and non-recoverable costs when necessary.
Ensure accurate and deliverable invoicing projections.
Monitor and update projections as needed.
Manage the team to ensure precise measurement, variation, and invoicing in line with contract terms.
Set and manage commercial team targets.
Resolve application queries and invoices promptly.
Conduct face-to-face reviews with clients as required.
Promote and uphold good practices in job processing.
Team Management:
Develop strong working relationships with your team.
Work with individuals to promote best practices.
Establish SMART (Specific, measurable, achievable & realistic) objectives, deadlines, targets, and objectives.
Encourage professionalism and support personal development through training. – Conduct regular performance reviews.
Reporting:
Generate weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports as instructed by Directors.
Prepare margin reports for offices (monthly), WIP reports (monthly), Client WIP reports (as requested), forecasts (as requested), invoice projections (monthly with weekly updates), and target & actuals reports for the commercial team.
Serving the Customer:
Always conduct yourself professionally.
Deliver work within agreed timescales, managing priorities effectively.
Cultivate effective and longstanding relationships, emphasizing dispute avoidance.
Build and nurture relationships with clients, their representatives, and the internal team.
Delivering Quality:
Promote best practices and support the Commercial Director and Operational leads in applying business policies and procedures.
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
Knowledge of SOR, Open Book, and Cost-Plus pricing models is essential.
Expertise in commercial strategy and innovation to maximize profit and cash management.
Understanding of claims and dispute resolution.
Proficiency in preparing and interpreting financial reports.
Effective time management and prioritization skills.
Knowledge of sub-contract orders and familiarity with buying and estimating processes.
Understanding of management accounts and forecasting.
