Mechanical Engineer

Role Purpose

The Mechanical Engineer will support the delivery, operation, and continuous improvement of mechanical building services across a complex, multi-building estate. The role focuses on ensuring mechanical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in line with statutory, contractual, and sustainability requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the operation, maintenance, and optimisation of mechanical systems including HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and associated plant

  • Provide technical input into planned and reactive maintenance activities

  • Review mechanical designs, specifications, and technical submissions for compliance with standards and client requirements

  • Assist with the delivery of mechanical projects, upgrades, and lifecycle replacement works

  • Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and carbon reduction

  • Ensure all mechanical works comply with relevant legislation, health & safety standards, and industry best practice

  • Liaise with internal teams, specialist subcontractors, and stakeholders to coordinate works and resolve technical issues

  • Support fault finding, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for mechanical plant failures

  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, reports, and asset records

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering

  • Experience working with mechanical building services in a complex estate (e.g. healthcare, education, commercial, or research environments)

  • Sound knowledge of HVAC systems, plant rooms, and mechanical infrastructure

  • Familiarity with relevant standards and legislation (e.g. H&S, pressure systems, water hygiene)

Desirable:

  • Working towards or holding professional registration (e.g. IEng or CEng)

  • Experience in energy management or sustainability-focused projects

  • Knowledge of CAFM systems and asset management practices
