Umbrella consultation call

The UK Government has launched a consultation on the role that umbrella companies play in the employment sector.

Closing at the end of February the consultation, championed by the Treasury, HM Revenue & Customs and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, is intended to provide the government with an ‘up-to-date and well-informed view of how the umbrella company market operates.’

The move has been welcomed by stakeholders as the first step in a bid to rid the sector of a reputation tarnished by allegations of mis-payment and tax avoidance.

Options Resourcing director David Doherty is one in the sector in favour of the Call for Evidence: Umbrella company market consultation.

He said:

“The sector has been plagued by misinformation and it is important that the government is making a real bid to try and understand the challenges faced. That the Treasury, HMRC and BEIS will be working together to assess the industry, indicates just how important the Government sees the review.”
